Blogging can be a small or a big investment in time but to be successful in blogging, consistency is key. While consistency may get you to the level of success (whatever that means to you) for your blog, there are other aspect of blogging that goes into the process altogether and staying motivated to do it is not always easy. Maybe writing comes easy to you so you can bang out a blog post in 15 min, but your blog post isn’t limited to the content. You have to account for the time spent drafting the post, creating graphics, publishing and promoting the blog. An area I’ve noticed bloggers struggle the most with is staying motivated to blog consistently….does this sound like you? Because I have been there.

I remember when I first starting blogging 8 years ago, I didn’t know all that went through publishing a blog post. I wrote blog posts on the fly and published them only when I felt “inspired” to write something. As I matured as a blogger, I realized that the reason why I was terrible at it, isn’t because I wasn’t a good writer or lacked topics to write about but I was terrible at blogging because I lacked a system that worked. Expecting to run a successful blog when I was only blogging once a month or once every two months, was absolutely foolish on my part. If you’re new to blogging or have been blogging for a while but struggle with being motivated – I hope this blog will encourage you to create systems that will help you grow your audience and your blog.

Here are the steps on how to stay motivated as an entrepreneur consistently:

1. Set Realistic Goals

It’s important to outline what your vision and your goals are for your blog. Whether your blog is a personal blog or you’re using it for your business to grow your customer base, setting realistic goals and revisiting them monthly, quarterly and yearly will help you stay motivated.

So if one of your goals is to monetize your blog, landing a guest post on a huge publication or have 5,000 page views a month, writing out these goals and breaking them down to weekly, monthly, quarterly goals is crucial to remaining motivated. 

2. Avoid Comparison and Remain Focused

Don’t believe the hype, the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. The grass is greener where you water it. Comparing your blog to other bloggers will not grow your audience, it will not help you write blog posts, so the question is why do it? Use your goals as fuel to grow whenever you feel the comparison trap creeping in. If you must, daily take a look at your goals and push yourself harder until you crush them. Just like the grass is greener where you water it, so is the growth of your blog. By spending the time to nurture your blog no matter how small or large your audience is, you will notice how much you are able to accomplish and how much growth you can achieve simply by focusing on you and what you do best.

Don’t believe the hype. Don’t believe the motivational quote for entrepreneurs that says that the grass is always greener on the other side. The grass is greener where you water it.

3. Create a Schedule and Stick to it

When you don’t have a schedule for your blog, you risk the chance of being inconsistent and unmotivated. Have you thought about how often you want to blog? Once a week or once a month? What days of the week are you going to blog? How will your readers know about the blogs you’ve written? These are some questions to answer that will help you as you create a schedule in order to be consistent. I recommend using google calendar and schedule out your blog posts. Schedule the day you will write your blog, the day you will  shoot for your images, the day you will create your graphics, the day you will tell your followers about your new blog etc. Although this may seem overwhelming, creating systems for your blog will help you run your blog successfully.

4. Batch Your Process

While creating a schedule is one big step to blogging consistently, I’ve found that batching my process has helped me tremendously. There are many steps that go into publishing a blog post from writing the blog post, creating brand images, scheduling blog post, sharing on social media – all of these steps take time. Batching my process has helped me save time and be more efficient than on days when I try to do everything on the same day. So what does my batching days look like?

Day 1: Write 4-5 blog posts

Day 2: Create blog graphic for each blog posts

Day 3: Edit blog posts and review blog graphic

Day 4: Schedule posts on blog

So if your goal is to publish 4 blogs a month, by using this schedule, you will have created all the blog posts you need for the month in 4 days.
